Task 4

a)

Living in towns and cities has advantages and disadvantages. On the one hand, there are many education and job opportunities and health care services. People can use sports facilities and lead a varied social life. People can take part in cultural events, such as concerts and theatre performances, meet in cafés, pubs and night clubs. There are many shopping facilities. In case of emergency, help is normally quickly available. However, some suburbs do not have enough of these facilities yet.

b)

On the other hand, city inhabitants live in polluted, noisy, crowded and hectic places. There is often a lot of traffic, mess and dirt in the streets. Many city people live in blocks of flats, which is not an ideal place for children. There is also a high level of crime. Living in a town or a city is also more expensive than living in the country. Although you can make more new friends than in the country, living in a city often has a feeling of anonymity.

c)

Living in the country is certainly less hectic. There is peace and quiet, more green space and good air. People who live in the country usually own a house and a garden where they can grow vegetables and breed domestic animals. They look after their property. It gives them more space and privacy. The relationships between people in villages are usually much closer than in towns. People know and help each other more.

d)

However, everybody knows about every step you make which may not be com¬fortable. In villages there are less education and job opportunities, less health care ser¬vices. There may be less sports facilities, although people can easily do sport outside. There are not many cultural facilities. People have to commute to work. Sometimes, things like home delivery or Internet connection may be a problem. For many people, especially the young, life in a village may seem boring.
